DEFENCE HIERARCHY

ORGANISATION OF MINISTRY OF DEFENCE
In order to carryout its roles, the MOD is structured and streamlined to reflect its various department as follows:
- At the helm is the President who is the Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces. Next in line is the Minister of Defence who is the political head of the Ministry and is responsible for giving political guidance and direction to MOD. Below the Minister of Defence are the Commander Defence Forces (CDF) and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Defence. The Commander Defence Forces is the top soldier in the Ministry of Defence, while the Permanent Secretary is the key principal accounting officer at Ministry
of Defence. The Commanders of the Army and Air Force are immediate subordinate commanders to CDF. Currently, under the CDF are three Chiefs of Staff namely Inspector General, Chief
of Staff Operations and Plans and Chief of Staff Service Personnel and Logistics. The Chiefs Of Staff are the principal advisors to the CDF. Under the Permanent Secretary are two Deputy Secretaries namely Policy
Public Relations and International Affairs,Deputy Secretary
Procurement and Research Director Finance Administration and
Human Resources and Director war Veterans Affairs.
MOD CIVILIAN STAFF
The Permanent Secretary is the top civil servant in the ministry
of Defence. Reporting to him are four Deputy Secretaries responsible
for Procument and Research, Policy and International Affairs,
Finance, Administration and Human Resources and that of War Veterans
Affairs.
